PM / Muddy Bee

Muddy Bee developed from Souler Rico, possibly even just a name change. The only known CD release was “The Basic Monster EP”, a self-released 3 track demo. Soon after this, they dispersed into two other bands, The Burning Dice and Yourcodenameis:milo. The style is very similar to Yourcodenameis:milo with Paul Mullen’s distinctive voice.

The Automatic return with the third single from their Tear The Signs Down. A song that doesn’t take too seriously, a fun shout-along punk pop track that travels at 100 mph, it’s a fun track to add to that Summer playlist. Due for digital release only on June 20 2010, and was recorded at Warwick Hall, Cardiff.

PM / Welcome ★ Young Legionnaire

yyl

Young Legionnaire are a British post-hardcore band made up of Milo’s Paul Mullen, Bloc Party’s Gordon Moakes, and Dean Pearson. The band’s original drummer was Will Bowerman of Brontide, I Was A Cub Scout and La Roux’s live drummer.

In 2006, Yourcodenameis:milo started a collaborations project called “Print is Dead Vol. 1“, the idea being bands would go up to the YCNI:Milo studio in Newcastle and spend no longer than one day writing and recording a song for a record. Gordon Moakes was among the musicians who took part in the project, recording a track with the band called “Wait A Minute”. This started the idea of working together again, although commitments with their other bands had meant that they did not have time to. When Yourcodenameis:milo went on hiatus in 2007, Mullen joined The Automatic as a guitarist and vocalist, with Moakes continuing with Bloc Party.

During 2009, Moakes and Mullen started the band, with La Roux’s live drummer Will Bowerman completing the line up. In December 2009, with Bloc Party on hiatus and both The Automatic and La Roux inactive over the Christmas break, the band entered the studio. In January 2010, the group were revealed to be named “Young Legionnaire” and they played their first show at the end of January in London. On the 16th of August 2010, the band released their first single, the double A Side “Colossus/Iron Dream” on both limited edition vinyl and in .mp3 format on Holy Roar Records.

PM / This Is A Fix

THE AUTOMATIC – THIS IS A FIX

This Is a Fix is the second album by The Automatic, and the first with Paul Mullen. It is due for release on 25 August 2008. The band has worked with producer Don Gilmore in Los Angeles, but were disappointed with these sessions, and instead worked with Butch Walker at Sage and Sound Recording in Los Angeles then back in Cardiff with Richard Jackson and London with Stephen Harris.

The Automatic began work in 2006 on the follow-up to previous album Not Accepted Anywhere, however after the departure of Alex Pennie and joining of Paul Mullen, the completed recordings of such songs as “Steve McQueen” and “Revolution” – which featured Alex Pennie providing synths and vocals – were shelved and later re-recorded with Paul Mullen. Writing took place sporadically – with songs originating from both before and after Mullen’s joining.

The album spawned only one single “Steve McQueen“, however “Magazines” and “Secret Police” were originally planned for release as singles. This Is A Fix leaked onto the internet a month before release, it was also hindered by online distribution issues – which saw both the single “Steve McQueen” and album get released late across sites such as itunes and 7digital.
